The YF-23 has never been available in decal form, despite there being kits in 1/72 (Italeri and Dragon) as well as 1/48 (Hobby Boss and Collectaire). All of these suffered from average decal sheets, so this release by Caracal Models (for both scales) has been well received.
CD72016 contains markings for both of the YF-23 prototypes and has been designed for both the Italeri and Dragon kits. It contains a complete set of markings and stencils and there are enough to build both aircraft from one sheet. The two airframes were:-
YF-23 87-0800 - Prototype Air Vehicle 1 (PAV-1), painted overall FS36118 Gunship Grey;
YF-23 87-0801 - Prototype Air Vehicle 2 (PAV-2), painted in a two tone scheme using the same grays as the F-15, namely FS36320 Dark Ghost Grey and FS36375 Light Ghost Grey
As is normal for Caracal, the sheet is printed by Cartograf and is in perfect register. The instruction sheet comprises a 4-sided A5 booklet with upper, lower and side views for each scheme.
All in all, a simple but well executed sheet of an unusual subject.
