Wolfpak Decals sheet 72-076 "Hauling the Mail" provides some interesting markings for two F-105Fs from Ryan's Raiders (the 34th TFS), an A-7D from the 146th TFS and a MATS C-123B. The individual aircraft include:-

  • A-7D-14-CV 73-1002 "PT" from the 146th TFS, 171st TFW based at Pittsburgh IAP during 1981. This was painted in the standard South East Asian scheme, comprising dark green (FS34079), Medium green (FS34102) and tan (FS30219) upper surfaces with light grey (FS36622) lower surfaces. Tailcodes and serial nubers were in black and it carried the squadron badge on both sides of the nose;
  • F-105F-1-RE 63-8281 from the 34th TFS (known as Ryan's Raiders) of the 388th TFW, as deployed from Japan to South Vietnam in April 1967 and based at Korat RTAFB. This aircraft carried the standard South East Asian Scheme comprising dark green (FS34079), Medium green (FS34102) and tan (FS30219) upper surfaces with light grey (FS36622) lower surfaces;
  • C-123B-22-FA 57-6289 from MATS during 1966. This was overall natural metal with with the upper sides painted gloss white with an Insignia Blue cheatline. The engine nacelles were matt black, and the aircraft's nose, tail band and wingtims were painted matt fluorescent red-orange (FS38913);
  • F-105F-1-RE 63-8353 "JE" from the 34th TFS (known as Ryan's Raiders) of the 388th TFW, based at Korat RTAFB during 1967. This carried a scheme based on the SEA "wraparound" scheme comprising dark green (FS34079), Medium green (FS34102) and tan (FS30219) upper surfaces, although this carried the "reverse" scheme. The lower surfaces had upper surface scheme extended underneath, but with tan (FS30219) and SAC green (FS34159) applied in 45 degree diuagonal stripes.

As always, Wolfpak provides a single side view for each aircraft, but with comprehensive history, colour scheme and weapons details. Limited stencils are provided only for the F-105Fs with all other such markings coming from the kit. The "USAF and U.S. AIR FORCE" markings are correctly provided in Insignia Blue and the whole sheet is in perfect register.

This is another one of those sheets with some real gems and is highly recommended!
